Being 6 months pregnant, I wake up voraciously hungry, wanting to eat everything in sight. I need something that's quick and packed full of good nutrients for a healthy baby and healthy mom, as well as something that fulfills my sweet-tooth cravings without being packed full of sugar like cereal or a pastry. I've found my answer in oatmeal.
Oatmeal is an unassuming, inexpensive, and filling breakfast. With numerous health benefits, from lowering your cholesterol to keeping you full longer so that you don't overeat, not to mention it's full of antioxidants, why not start your day with oatmeal?
If you think oatmeal is boring, you are wrong, my friend. Oatmeal's blank canvas lends itself to adding any number of vibrant ingredients to take it from utilitarian to gourmet. Below you'll find some of my favorites. Purchase the ingredients at the beginning of the week, chop them up, and stick them in the refrigerator for a quick, healthy, and delicious go-to breakfast.
Basic Oatmeal Recipe
- 1/2 cup of oats
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup of water
Add all ingredients to a bowl and place in the microwave on high for 2 minutes. Take out and stir. Add your favorite toppings and eat. Note: I like my oatmeal on the soupier side. If you like your oatmeal thicker eliminate 1/4 cup of milk.
