Learn about the knitting traditions of Iceland as we knit Jared Flood's Grettir pullover (men's and women's versions are available). You'll learn about the classic Lopi pullover's seamless construction, how to read colorwork charts, and how to work the colorwork pattern knitting with both your right and left hands, all while creating a beautiful, wearable piece of art.

Session 1 Class meets on Saturday, January 24 from 12:30-3:30pm and March 28 from 10:00am-1:00pm. You must attend both classes. Because this class is meeting over the lunch hour please feel free to bring something to eat while we work. There will be an optional progress check-in on Saturday, February 28 from 2:30-3:00pm.

• one US 7 (4.5mm) 16" and 32" circular needle, or size necessary to obtain correct gauge (this will be referred to as needle Size A)
• one set of US 7 (4.5mm) double pointed needles (dpns), or size necessary to obtain correct gauge (this will be referred to as needle Size A)
• one US 5 (3.75mm) 16" and 32" circular needle, or two sizes smaller than your Size A needles (this will be referred to as needle Size B and is used for the ribbing)
• one set of US 5 (3.75mm) dpns, or two sizes smaller than your Size A needles (this will be referred to as needle Size B and is used for the ribbing)
• one US 8 (5.0mm) 16” and 32” circular needle, or one size larger than your Size A needles (this will be referred to as needle Size C and is used for the stranded colorwork yoke)
• one US 4 (3.5mm) 32" circular needle, or one size smaller than your Size B needles (this will be referred to as needle Size D  and is used for the Tubular Cast On only) 
• one set of US 4 (3.5mm) dpns, or one size smaller than your Size B needles (this will be referred to as needle Size D  and is used for Tubular Cast On only) 
• one US 6 (4.0mm) 16″ circular needle, or one size smaller than your Size A needles (this will be referred to as needle Size E and is used for the Rolled Crewneck Collar only)

Homework 

Please complete a gauge swatch before your first class, changing needle size until you achieve 20 stitches & 30 rounds = 4″ in single-color stockinette stitch. This will be your needle Size A. If you need to know how to measure gauge and how needle size can change your gauge, please watch this video. 

Additionally, if you do not currently knit holding the yarn in your left hand (known as continental/German/picking style knitting) I highly encourage you to watch this video and practice holding the yarn in your left hand before coming to class.
